Our Mission:
Leading the community in advocacy and services for the aging and those involved in their lives.

Council on Aging of West Florida is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that has served seniors and their families since 1972. Council on Aging provides community based in home services in an effort to enable the elderly to live a healthy, safe and relevantly independent life in their own familiar surroundings. Council on Aging of West Florida provides programs and services such as Meals on Wheels, congregate meal sites and senior centers, Adult Day Health care and Alzheimer's respite care, Case management, information and referral services, Foster Grandparent and senior Companion programs, Retired and Senior Volunteer programs and other volunteer opportunities. Council on Aging also offers affordable customize plans for home delivered meals and Adult Day Health Care through Senior Solutions, the agency's private pay program.

Empowering someone to live a healthy, safe and independent life in their own familiar surroundings is also good for the community. The majority of clients served by Council on Aging are moderate and lower income individuals. Nursing home care for most of these seniors would be paid for by Medicaid funds, a combination of state and federal tax revenue.

According to the Florida Department of Elder Affairs 2004 statistics, the number of Escambia County citizens over age 65 is 41,835, 13.4%. Of that group, 14% or 5,671 are described as having two or more disabilities including self-care limitation. Another 5% are described as cases of probable Alzheimer's Disease cases. The elder population is expected to rise faster than any other group in Escambia County. This figure is expected to rise to over 45,000 by 2010.

Council on Aging of West Florida, Inc. is funded in part by grants and/or contracts with the Northwest Florida Area Agency on Aging, Inc., the State of Florida Department of Elder Affairs, the State of Florida Department of Children and Families, United Way and the Corporation for National Services. The Council on Aging also receives financial support from the City of Pensacola, Escambia County and area businesses, organizations and individuals. 100% of donations go to the Council on Aging of West Florida, Inc. Solicitation of Contributions Act registration # CH817.
